Travel gear for your big trip.

  • Save money and travel safe by organising a mobile phone with an international roaming phone card before you leave. We've scoured the net to find the best deal for you. Credit doesn't expire, so what you don't use can be used whenever you're lucky enough to travel again, and you won't be coming home to insane phone bills when your trip is over. Get your value for mobile card from GoSim.
  • Don't think about leaving without insurance either. Again, we haven't come across anything as value for money as Columbus Direct.
  • Hostel Sheets: Provided in most hostels for a fee. You’ll save money, and have the peace of mind of knowing where your sheet has been if you pack your own. Bed bugs can be a nasty surprise and hard to get rid of once your gear is infected, so opting for a Permethrin treated one is a great idea
  • Roman Palm 1 or 4 Sleeping Bag: Even if you aren’t intending on roughing it very much, you’ll be thanking yourself, time and time again for having packed this one. If you're looking for something a bit warmer, throw in a SeaToSummit Reactor Liner for a versatile system that packs down small.
  • Packing Modules or Packing Cubes: They’ll not only keep you organised, they’ll help you fit more in your pack than without them. They also make packing and unpacking a breeze which you will be loving more and more as you move from town to town.
  • SeaToSummit Stuff Sacks will last the distance and are great to use as shoe bags and carrying your dirty laundry to the laundromat discretely.
  • Travel Towel: This is something that you’ll be using (if you’re lucky) at least once a day, so spending a few extra dollars on packing the best available is worth it.
  • Journal: It will become a treasured souvenir, so opt for one you’ll be love in years to come rather than a cheap spiral bound type.
  • A pillow, a sleep mask, and ear plugs: Even the biggest party goers need their sleep eventually.
  • A light dual voltage Hairdryer (essential for longer hair) & Thermals: Because it gets cold!
  • Washing Kit: Sometimes you just don’t have time or a Laundromat available.
  • Money Belt: Depending on where you are travelling. Although it is a great idea, and cheap insurance, to pack one just in case you do feel you need the extra security. Yes it really isn’t the end of the world if you lose your documents passports etc, but when you’re a long way from home with a limited budget it can feel that way.
  • Pac-Safe Metrosafe 200 or Citysafe200, or Citysafe 100. Peace of mind.
  • Toiletry Bag: One with a hook is good because not all bathrooms are squeaky clean. Fill it with Nalgene bottles and you won't have any issues with leakage in transit.
  • Pac-Safe Mesh systems are handy for peace of mind, even for just leaving your bag in hostels, or if that looks too hard core for you, cable locks are the next best thing.
  • Travel locks are absolutely essential, and if you plan to visit the US make sure it is TSA approved.
  • A small torch is also an essential. LED torches are brighter than traditional globes and our range of LED lenser products, won't let you down. An alarm clock is also very necessary for catching planes, trains and buses on time, and although most mobile phones will do the trick, you may wan't to consider this handy alarm clock / torch two in one!
  • A water bottle (collapsible bottles are great) and picnic gear will help you stay within budget in more expensive areas.
  • A first aid kit that you will hopefully never need to use should also be on your must pack list.
